Police to Have Extra Patrols This St. Patrick's Day
A warning, if you're planning to party on St. Patrick's Day. Erie Police will be out in force. This St. Patrick's Day, downtown Erie will be busy. Erie police say they're ready. Like St. Patrick's Days in the past, downtown Erie bars and restaurants are expected to get packed with people, celebrating the holiday. But, if you plan on drinking, Erie Police say think ahead. They will have 8 to 10 extra officers on patrol, concentrating on downtown Erie. Those extra patrols will be on top of their regular shift officers. And, with a Liquor Control Board grant, Erie police will also have a task force on hand, to target underage and at-risk drinking. Erie police say they'll be focusing that, on drunk and disorderly people, and DUI's. "There will be an underage task force out there, as well as extra units in the downtown area. People just need to use common sense. Have a designated driver, take a cab, take a bus, use common sense." Said Erie Police Lt. Kirk Werner.
Police say if you are arrested for a DUI, it will cost you in fines, and even possible jail time. The Erie County DUI task force will also have officers on the roads with DUI enforcement. Those saturation patrols will be on roving in Erie county, targeting drunk drivers. |
