WICU 12 has learned there's a multi-agency investigation, into allegations that a National Guard Soldier smuggled military assault weapons from overseas. Sources tell us, the weapons were found when they poured from a hidden compartment.
12News has confirmed that an investigation is underway, surrounding why a soldier had a cache of military rifles. It allegedly happened during training this weekend, at the Cambridge Springs National Guard base. 12News has learned that soldiers were unloading a shipment of equipment that came back from their duty overseas, when they found a hidden compartment. Inside was a cache of guns, military assault rifles. One soldier admitted to smuggling the weapons. However, no charges have yet been filed yet. 12News contacted the National Guard near Harrisburg, they only confirm that an investigation is underway. Major Cory Angell with the Army National Guard tells 12News that "The National Guard is precluded from making any comments on the matter, because it is under investigation by another agency." He adds that "The National Guard is cooperating with the investigating agency." Major Angell says they will wait for the outcome of the ATF's investigation before making any comment. Again, The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is conducting that investigation.  12News contacted the ATF, the Assistant Special Agent in Charge said he had no comment on the investigation. 12News will continue our investigation into these allegations, and follow this story as details unfold. |
