The women's Division II NCAA tournament kicks off and Gannon University is hosting some of the first round games.The Gannon Lady Knights are currently ranked number one in the country. Now of course this is a huge event for the University and their women's basketball program. However, the added activity is not just inside the Hammermill Center. According to John Oliver, President of Visit Erie, they are estimating a minimum of $175,000 in direct spending in the community over the course of the weekend. Hotel and restaurants are benefiting as well. The Sheraton's sales are already up according to Jodi Streimer, Director of Sales/Marketing. Gannon plays their first game on Friday against Fairmont State at 6 o'clock.
