Erie Hall Becomes Dining Hall
Penn State Behrend's Erie Hall is now being transformed into a dining hall, after a huge fire last week damaged the existing dining hall and gutted the adjacent gazebo seating area. The school had set up a temporary facility to serve limited meals last week, but officials said it was inadequate. So they came up with a plan to transform Erie Hall into a dining hall for the rest of the school year. Crews have been working on the project all this week. They say the new facility, with 450 seats, will be ready for students when they return from spring break next week. A mobile kitchen consisting of 5 trucks is being set up outside to prepare all the meals. Meantime crews are now cleaning up the debris following last week's fire . Today officials say the gazebo will be rebuilt on it's present site. And the renovation of Dobbins Dining Hall that began before the fire will be finished in time to re-open in the fall. Behrend's Director of Housing and Food Services, Randall Geering said, "With the steel structure being viable to use it looks like we can rebuild the gazebo right in it's present location. So at this point the plan is to make that happen." |
