The first reported case of an attempted abduction of a young female student hap penned in mid-January.  A 13 year old girl, an eighth grader, walking to Joanna Connell on East 38 Street.  The suspect, in this case, grabbed the teen by the arm.  She managed to break free.

Ron Holman is the father of that young girl.

"It's time to step it up.  Everybody get involved including parents, Police, school teachers, principals everybody just needs to be alert," said Holman.

And in the weeks that followed into February, there were more attempted abductions on Erie's streets.  Parents have become concerned.  We caught up with this Erie mother doing some grocery shopping Tuesday.

"We're alot more careful in our neighborhood.  We keep our eyes open on strange cars keeping our doors locked, and alot more attention on the kids," said one parent.

All of these cases, have very strong similarities.  The victims are young females in their teens and they are either heading to school or leaving school.

Police have descriptions but have yet to question any persons of interest. They have beefed up patrols around schools.  Thursday night, a crimewatch meeting will attempt to inform parents about child predators.  They say its a problem that needs the eyes and ears of the community.

"Statistics show that when a child is abducted, more often than not there not going to survive," said Bob Potalivo.  He is an active member of the Glenwood Hills Neighborhood Watch Group.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday night at the Trinity Lutheran Church on East 38th. It starts at seven.
