Palin Pick Proves to Be Stroke of Genius

Palin Pick Proves to Be Stroke of GeniusDo I have doubts about the choice of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s Vice Presidential running mate? I sure do, but I have to admit that those fears are starting to subside as Palin proves to be the shot in the arm the McCain campaign needed.

What she’s done for the right: Palin entering the race has reinvigorated the McCain campaign in a way that no one could have predicted. Republicans to the right of McCain love the choice of Palin, not only because of her fiscal conservative record but because of her unwavering commitment to God and country. Republicans to the left of McCain (the few that there are) also love the Palin pick because of her anti-corruption stance and record of reaching across the aisle to get things done. The post convention bounce is proof that Republicans not only approve of Palin but that they energetically embrace her into a campaign that could have been left for dead.

What she’s done to the left: There’s no doubt that Barack Obama is a cool and collected character, but the introduction of Sarah Palin into this campaign has Obama visibly shaken and off message. There is no doubt that the Palin pick came as a huge surprise to the left, and has Democrats struggling to find a way to respond and criticize this surprise Republican star.

Now, there is still two months to go in this election cycle and anything can happen, and Palin, like any politician, doesn’t come without some baggage. The real question is, will Democrats be able to make any hay out of the small amount of baggage that Palin brings, and will Democrats run the risk of giving John McCain a pass in effort to smear Palin?

Ultimately, the Palin pick was a stroke of genius that has solidified the Republican base and caused chaos in the Democratic Party. The longer Democrats are forced to focus of Palin, the less time they have to focus on McCain, and he after all, is the one running for President.
