Renewing Your Vows is Not a Second Wedding By: Loretta Legend |
| |
You’ve been married for a while and you’re still in love. What’s the perfect way to reaffirm your love to each other? A lot of couples choose to renew their vows and to pledge their love all over again. It’s a beautiful moment and something that is worthy of celebrating, but renewing your vows is not a second wedding, and this time around things are supposed to be very different.
For instance, even if you decide to have a formal wedding ceremony, there are something’s that just aren’t appropriate to do again. For instance if you are renewing your vows, you shouldn’t have a second bachelor or bachelorette party. That was for when you were single. This time around you’re not single so no bachelor or bachelorette parties.
Many second time brides that are renewing their vows do choose to have a bridal shower but very often they ask that you don’t give gifts but rather make donations to a charity of choice in the name of the couple.
The rings stay the same. Unless you have the money to spend and the desire for new rings, you should just use the same rings you have been wearing since your first wedding. And why wouldn’t you. There’s a lot of positive history in those rings and they are the symbol of your marital success.
When it come to the guest list, most couples try to invite the guests they had at their first wedding with the exception of new friends than have been met along the way. Having all the guests from the first wedding adds a nice symmetry to the whole event.
Deciding to renew your wedding vows in a second wedding ceremony is a beautiful and wonderful way to express the love you still feel for your partner. Just remember that it isn’t a second wedding but a reaffirmation of a wedding that you’ve already had. It’s not about starting over; it’s about continuing the success that makes your marriage something worth celebrating all over again.
