What not to eat!

What not to eat! There is an old saying that says; you are what you eat. In the age of chemical preservative and additives, fillers and sugar based food products, that old saying has never been more accurate.

Let’s face it; for the most part American’s are unhealthy. We have a huge obesity problem in both adults and children, cases of diseases like diabetes and Crohn’s disease are on the rise and overall we are feeling fatigued and out of steam. A big part of the problem with health in America has to do with the foods we eat.

It probably wouldn’t surprise you to learn that the average American has a very bad diet. So what are the right things to eat and what are the wrong things to eat? Check out the following and see if there isn’t something there which can help you make better food choices:

• Stay away from processed foods. What are processed foods? Talk a walk down the frozen food aisle at your local grocery store. Do you see all the pizza, quick dinners, French fries, and pies? Those are processed foods and they are nutritionally dead. They are the nutritional equivalent of eating cardboard. Stay away from these foods.

• Buy organic first and local grown second. When shopping for produce, you should be looking for organically grown produce. When a food is organically grown that means that no chemical fertilizers were used in the growing of the food. If organic products aren’t available where you show, look for locally grown foods. Foods that are locally grown are much fresher than foods that have been shipped into the area, and there are more likely grown using organic techniques. So even though they may not be organic so to say, it is a good bet that few to no chemicals were used in the raising of those products.

• Fast food leads to problems fast. If you have done nothing else for yourself, don’t eat fast foods. Fast food can barely be called food. It would be more appropriately labeled non-toxic than as food. Not eating fast food is the quickest best preventative thing you can do for your health.

So what should you eat? We’ll talk about that next week.
